Severe Weather Event – 20 February 2023
Here’s the latest update on the current status of deliveries across the carrier networks:
- Napier and Hastings – Only accessible via SH2 from Palmerston North, resulting in very heavy traffic congestion and significant delays. Many suburbs and surrounding areas are still inaccessible. Heavy congestion and delays are expected to continue for a considerable time.
- Gisborne – Only accessible via SH2 from Opotiki, resulting in heavy traffic congestion and significant delays. Power and communication outages are still prevalent throughout the region. Many suburbs and surrounding areas are still inaccessible. Heavy congestion and delays are expected to continue for a considerable time.
- Northland and Coromandel – Most areas are now accessible by road. However, not all roads are open, meaning vehicles are taking alternative routes to access some regions. Please continue to expect delays until all roads are cleared and operational again.
- Inter-Island – Ferries are all operational, but there is still a backlog from the cancelled sailings last week. It is expected to take about another week before the networks are fully caught up again.
