Rail Services At Peak Season

Despite partial reinstatement of rail services linking Picton and Christchurch last month, our Freight partners are not seeing rail as a viable alternative to road and coastal freight options at this time.
Last year they were able to move the increased seasonal volume in October and (early) November without disruption, utilising all three modes of coast, road and rail up until the Kaikoura event of 14th November. This year, there is a strong likelihood that this will not be the case,  and hence are signalling a requirement to allow an extra day’s transit between Islands,  through the limited channels available, especially southbound freight which traditionally makes up 60% of inter-Island volumes.
Accordingly, we would encourage the use of our South Island 3PL and logistics services, and are available to discuss your seasonal freight and storage requirements today.
