Situation
Based in Christchurch, GirlGuiding New Zealand is a registered charity providing its 10,000 members with life skills, knowledge, values and a sense of adventure through a programme that’s designed to be relevant to the interests of today’s girls.
The Guide E-Shop is a crucial component of the funding of the New Zealand operations. This e-commerce site connects girls and leaders with items such as badges, uniforms and programme materials through to gifts and more.
Challenge
In 2011, with several thousand stock units and a preferred same day turnaround requirement, it became clear that the logistical aspect of the Guide E-Shop sat outside of the organisation’s core functions. The client turned to Online Distribution to explore outsourcing with a wish list that included:
- Reduce freight and labour cost
- Remove “key person” exposure
- Improve inward and outward order accuracy
- Improve inventory accuracy
- Focus resource on growing and improving the Guide E-shop
- Redeploy valuable people and space
- Remove the strain from peaks and troughs of demand (school terms, jamborees, projects etc)
Benefit
Working alongside GirlGuiding NZ, Online Distribution was able to fully scope the decision to brief and customise a solution to achieve the required end result. The client’s outsource was quickly followed by a move planned and executed by Online Distributin, ensuring no downtime or disruption to the client’s business. The Online Distribution team “made good” the premises, clearing it of fixtures, allowing GirlGuiding to redeploy the site within 24 hours.
Outcome
Each month Online Distribution accurately picks, packs and ships over 700 orders all around NZ, allowing the GirlGuiding team to focus its precious resources on core tasks, secure in the knowledge that their warehousing operations are in capable and professional hands.
